A Walk in the Snow with George

Good morning, my friends. Or afternoon, rather. It’s beautiful here in Maryland and this morning I took a walk with my favorite border collie. Then I came home and my husband was hanging the laundry on the line. We had our tea in the sunshine by the clothesline.

Would you care to join me?

I’ve done another slide show to share these photographs with you. For the accompanying music, please {click here} and open in a new tab or a new page and then return here and click play on the slide show. There are 31 photos.

School is on holiday break until after the New Year. So our last day was Friday. I have a huge amount of things to get done but I’m not going to worry about it. When I made this slide show, we were still snowed in. My husband and each took our own walks around the property this morning, both of us going out to the main road to see what we could see. We used our hiking poles to help give support in the snow and our good Sorel boots. Our driveway is a third of a mile long and goes through woods.

George absolutely loves this weather. He’s originally from Maine, you know. He bounds through the snow and has so much energy, it amazes us. Right now he is asleep at my feet and the plowman has just left. I’m glad that we can now get out the driveway, but in a way I liked the added feeling of isolation.

Hope you’re all doing well. Until next time, then . . .

PS ~ The music is from the soundtrack of ‘Love Actually’, which I think I just may watch tonight. It’s a good little holiday flick.

Hi Kate, isn't nature wonderful and so is your talent to see beauty all around you. Enjoy your vacation and don't worry about that huge list, it'll get done of it really needs doing. Thanks for the permission re the background picture although it was hard choosing just one.

As always, another beautiful set of photos. Glad to hear that everyone is staying nice and warm and that all the snow isn't stopping you from enjoying your time off!

Scrumptious photography. I especially loved the long lines in some to the photos, like the tree shadows. You live on a gorgeous piece of property.

My border collie walk with Ollie this morning was in shorts and a T-shirt and a chuck-it to play ball on a big soccer field.

WOW! Just WOW! Spring, Summer Fall, Winter, no matter the time of year you sure live in some pretty country. And you photograph it beautifully.
A dog asleep at your feet. *sigh* It's got to be one of my favorite things.
BTW: Sorels are the BEST!

Carla, you can take any image you like, just ask. Also, the resolution is a low one (800wide).

Pat, your card came today with the kids photos on it. Adorable! What is your e-mail address? E-mail me at katydid56@gmail.com, ok?

And thank you all.

You see, when I make a slide show I can't explain things! That's not actually George's own towel. It's actually one of our hand towels that resides in the downstairs bathroom. And the only reason I posted the clothes hanging on the line was because of a question from Deb (from Atlanta) yesterday where she asked 'so what's up with the clothespins?' I replied that we still dry our clothes outside when it's a nice sunny day!

Hi Kate,

Thank you so much for sharing with us the unrivalled majesty of God's creation - the scenery is breathtaking, beyond words!

I'm from Australia and snow is NOT a common thing here during the winter as it is in other countries... Although, they can be found in the coldest places in Australia during the winter which is usually on the mountains and in some places in the southern part of Australia...

Seeing the deep snow only made me long to experience the snow once again as I did in Canada, USA and Europe long, long ago... Guess I'll have to daydream about it. :-)

May we all remember to give Him thanks for blessing us with the unrivalled beauty of His creation each new day.

Take care this winter and enjoy the snow while you can!

With Kind Regards,

A Reader from Australia

Oh, it's so wintery and peaceful! I love it. Much better than the downpour I dealt with at the farm today. I need to watch "LOVE ACTUALLY" too, not sure I did last year. It's one of my holiday faves!

you truly live in a winter wonderland....

and those photos were absolutely amazing !!

we just re-watched "love actually"....and then "the holiday" and "he's just not that into you" and and and.....oh, there's just so many to watch !!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Absolutely pristine and peaceful! I see many note cards for next year!

Gotta a question? Did the clothes freeze?

Warm wishes, Jeanne

It was warm enough to sit outside in the sun today with just a sweater on. The clothes dried nicely.

When it gets too cold, we don't even bother putting them outside. I have dried clothes outside in the freezing weather before, in the sun, but it takes a long time. And they still have to thaw out afterwards.

Waaa. Dial-up internet doesn't work with slide shows, and we got nothing but a dusting of snow. Plus, I have to work.
Waaaaaaaaaa!

(From what I could see, beautiful pictures, gorgeous snow and what a wonderful thought, not having to go in to work until after New Years! Enjoy every minute of it. But still, waaa.)

I love this new slide show. I felt like I was really there with you.

I also love the fact that you hung your laundry outside to dry today despite the snow and colder temps.

Enjoy your snow.

What a lovely walk and George is just the sweetest animal always turning to see if you're coming with him. The manor house is just stunning sitting on the hill with all the snow around it and the picture of you caught in the mirror shows how beautiful you are. It's great you are off for the holidays but I finally got dug out this afternoon so it is back to the office tomorrow for me. Jeanne

Kate, it brought tears.....don't know why!! Perfect pictures and the music on top of it.....WOW!! Have a wonderful rest, enjoy the down time and give George a pat on the head for me. I miss my dogs so much, even though it's been years since they've been gone. We had one who would "eat" her way through the snow....such a silly little thing she was.
Thank you...

Enjoyed the walk through that beautiful snow and country side. I feel like I am in a Currier & Ives card!

Now if we could find a horse drawn sleigh....!! George could ride with us!

I will be sure to show Bailey this slide show! Really nice!

Oh, I so enjoyed this walk, Country Girl! Your landscape is so beautiful, what an outstanding place to live. I wish we could all visit you - you'd be able to do a slideshow of our family out walking then! :)

All my bloggy friends love your shell photo, and have given many suggestions and preferences about where we should hang it. I think we may move it around from time to time so we get the joy of it in different rooms - starting with the bathroom - how lovely to see the shell and think of summer while in a hot bath, with snow outside! Once again, many thanks for the beautiful photo!
